COVENTRY, UK, 5th October, 2026 - Careology has signed a new agreement with University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust to deploy its digital cancer platform across patients receiving systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT), supporting earlier intervention, improved patient outcomes and a reduction in avoidable hospital admissions.

Supported by funding from the West Midlands Health Innovation Network, the 12-month programme will evaluate how digitally enabled, nurse-led symptom monitoring improves the management of treatment-related toxicities experienced by people undergoing cancer treatment.

Cancer remains one of the leading causes of ill health and death in the UK. While treatments such as chemotherapy and immunotherapy have improved outcomes for many patients, they can also cause significant side effects and toxicities that, if not identified and managed early, may result in emergency department attendances, hospital admissions and a reduced quality of life.

Today, many patients rely on reactive support models, contacting clinical teams once symptoms have developed and become concerning. Through Careology's AI-enhanced, Class 1 medical device platform, patients can report symptoms via a mobile or web application, enabling clinicians to identify concerning patterns earlier and intervene before symptoms escalate.

As part of the programme, patient-reported symptom data will be reviewed by the acute oncology team, with patients reporting high-risk symptoms receiving a proactive clinical assessment within 24 hours. By combining digital monitoring with structured nurse-led intervention, the programme aims to reduce avoidable admissions, improve patient experience and support safer care closer to home.

The initiative will also help strengthen coordination between oncology services, primary care and community-based support, while empowering patients to take a more active role in managing their treatment and recovery.

Evidence from previous deployments of Careology has demonstrated strong patient engagement and satisfaction, resulting in a 50% reduction in unnecessary face-to-face assessments and 80% reduction in unnecessary amber assessments at Airedale NHS FT. Independent health economic modelling has also predicted potential NHS savings of more than £560,000 per 1,000 patients through reductions in avoidable hospital admissions.

Alongside the clinical evaluation, the programme will include a dedicated patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) workstream designed to understand barriers to digital access and ensure the service is inclusive and accessible. Patients and carers will contribute through focus groups and surveys, helping to shape future implementation and identify strategies to support digitally excluded groups.

The programme will assess patient engagement, clinical outcomes, workforce impact and health economic benefits, with findings informing potential wider deployment across non-surgical oncology services at UHCW and the West Midlands region. The project will also contribute to the growing evidence base for proactive, technology-enabled cancer care within the NHS.

Paul Landau, CEO at Careology, said:

"People receiving cancer treatment often experience symptoms and deteriorate rapidly if support is not available at the right time. By combining digital symptom monitoring with timely nurse-led intervention, we can identify problems earlier, support patients to manage symptoms more effectively, and help avoid unnecessary hospital visits. We're delighted to be working with UHCW and the Health Innovation Network on this important programme."

Dr Michael Tilby, Consultant Medical Oncologist, at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust, said:

"This programme represents an important opportunity to explore how digital innovation can support both patients and clinical teams. By enabling earlier identification of treatment-related toxicities, we hope to improve patient experience, enhance safety and better utilise NHS resources."

Tammy Holmes, Associate Director for Commercial and Business Development for Health Innovation West Midlands, said:

"This partnership demonstrates the potential of innovation to address some of the most pressing challenges facing cancer services. By supporting UHCW and Careology to evaluate digitally enabled symptom monitoring in a real-world setting, we can better understand the impact on patient outcomes, staff workflows and NHS resources. The programme will also generate important evidence to support future adoption and scale across the NHS, while contributing to the growth of innovative health technology companies within the region. The learning generated through this programme will help inform how solutions such as this can be deployed to deliver both health and economic benefits across the West Midlands and beyond.”
